Madame Fate, a mysterious fortune teller, has foreseen her own demise at the stroke of midnight. She has asked for your help in investigating each quirky carnival worker to determine their whereabouts when the clock strikes twelve. Your investigation will include a multitude of fascinating personalities, from Art the Carny to Lucy the Bearded Beauty, while exploring the magical world of Fate's Carnival. Each suspect has a motive, but only you can discover the secrets hidden within Madame Fate's crystal ball.At the end of the game, Madame Fate meets with you and asks you to complete a final puzzle, claiming that her death is the player's fault rather than the fault of any of the carnival workers. After finishing the last of these puzzles, an image of a haunted manor appears before the shot pans out to reveal Madame Fate lying dead on her crystal ball's table. A black ghost hovers above her, saying that "while you rescued Emma, you will never save Rose, his true love". We then see the detective (see Ravenhearst) talking to The Queen in a phone booth. The Queen informs the detective that something evil was released along with Emma, and the detective states "I know." The sequel and fifth game in the series, Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst, continues the Ravenhearst story-arc.

After mysterious disappearances has baffled Blackpool, England, the Master Detective is summoned back to the haunted grounds of Ravenhearst Manor about the case. Very little of the manor has survived the holocaust ignited when the Detective disabled Charles Dalimar's immortality machine, but Emma Ravenhearst's ghost appears to him, warning him away, but promising to help if he proceeds.
After inspecting the ruins as far as a nearby lighthouse and the back garden, the Master Detective is flung into an open grave bearing his(or her) own name by Victor Dalimar. After encountering Charles, the Master Detective sets to work on a steampunk recreation of scenes in Charles' insane life, which the Detective must now relive by solving one puzzle after another. Arriving in an underground antechamber, the Master Detective must watch as the four souls previously rescued from the manor: Emma, Rose Somerset, and her twin daughters Charlotte and Gwendolyn are re-imprisoned, and restored to living humans as each scene opens. The Detective must participate in recreating Charles's birth, abusive childhood, time of commitment to a mental institution, and the wedding he planned for himself and Emma.
Once the Detective has traveled through Charles's world, the final door opens (via Emma's chamber) to reveal a rudimentary mansion with a new immortality machine, powered by the life-forces of the kidnapped citizens of Blackpool. Sneaking past a jubilant Charles and Victor, the Master Detective deciphers clues from the enslaved prisoners to figure out how to shut down the machine, freeing Emma, Rose, Gwendolyn, and Charlotte and destroying the Dalimars once and for all.

This story takes place directly after the events in Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst. You are driving through a decrepit town called Dire Grove, which appears to be deserted. The weather forecast has predicted a heavy snowstorm and you have no other option but to explore the deserted town for shelter. You see an abandoned car and find a camcorder in it. The footage shows a teenaged girl crying and pleading you to save them. You also find a cryptic note: She is real. The legend is real..

As you explore the surrounding, you realize that all the villagers have evacuated due to the snowstorm, so you have to do everything by yourself. You learn that the girl in the footage is Alison Sterling, a collegiate who has chosen the Celtic legend of the Banshee as a subject for research. She arrived here with 3 friends and all four of them are missing. You also learn that Dr. Patricia Anderson, an archaeologist had unearthed some relics only some days ago.
You eventually learn about the legend of the Banshee. Apparently a farmer, a fisherman, a hunter and a blacksmith performed a ritual 1000 years ago to open a portal to talk to their kin in the spirit world. When the dead started attacking the living, they offered a young woman to appease the ghosts and close the portal. This woman became the Banshee and is trying to come back. You also find that all the students have been subdued and hypnotized by the Banshee. Dr. Anderson's recording proves that the relics unearthed by her are maybe the keys to the portal.

You are left with only one option: open the portal and send the Banshee back to the spirit world. Only after opening the portal you realized that the Banshee has tricked you into freeing her spirit. You race against time, trap the Banshee's spirit again and save the students. In the end, Alison gives a lecture about the events at Dire Grove, where she is given by a big applause by a huge number of audience, including her friends. An audience member asks her about your identity, but she says: "That person has asked to remain nameless, but I can give you their business card."
She flashes a card, and a Mystery Case Files logo is seen and the credits start rolling.
